Carbon Monoxide Awareness Project

Raising the awareness of the effects of carbon monoxide, Women Connect First is working in partnership with Wales and West Utilities to facilitate members of the Black and Minority Ethnic communities to receive information on carbon monoxide poisoning and how to prevent it, due to the new legislation that came into effect on 1st December 2022, making it compulsory for landlords to provide carbon monoxide alarms in all rented properties in Wales to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning deaths.

Protecting the vulnerable, the main objectives of this project are to:

  • Raise awareness of the life-threatening danger of carbon monoxide exposure and how to prevent it
  • Promote the use of carbon monoxide alarms and how to use them correctly
  • Encourage the use of the Priority Service Register (PSR) – a free, confidential register of customers who might need extra support in emergencies
  • Provide energy efficiency and personal advice on reading meters and understanding utility
